Sort of. I'm working in IT though that was fairly inevitable. I'm a lot more confident than I was back then but I guess everybody is. I've done some things I thought I never would and I've still not done some things I always thought I would.

So, er... yeah. Not very conclusive then. Hah.

Hmm I haven't written in here much for a while. *goes to see what the last entry was* Ahh ok so it was only a little while ago but hardly an entry of note.

I really haven't written anything more than a few lines long for months! I suppose I'm just too contented at the moment. I only seem to blog when I have something to whinge about. Currently I am really looking forward to seeing lovely Rosie next weekend (and not long until she's in Norwich \o/), band is going well, I'm writing quite a lot of music, bought a sexy new mp3 player, and I have a new job which I'm enjoying a lot more than my last (and it pays more too ;). So um yeah, nothing to complain about really!

I'll be back when things are crap again ;)

This made me laugh for more than was strictly necessary and I'm not entirely convinced it's worth an LJ post; especially when I haven't made one for months.

Either my keyboard is weird, or xmodmap is weird, or xorg is weird.

I have some keyboard shortcuts assigned (using xbindkeys) to mod3+[a few keys] and also to mod4+[a few keys]. If I assign Super_L to mod4 and Caps_Lock (which I have turned off) to mod3, all works as expected. However, if I assign Super_L to mod4 and Super_R to mod3, mod4 no longer works. Odd. If I then clear mod3, mod4 starts to work again.

So, can anyone tell me why Super_L and Super_R (the left and right Windows keys) seem to conflict in some way despite having different keycodes? Or perhaps there is something obvious I'm missing.

I'm experimenting this week with pescatarianism. On my way back from Sheffield on Wednesday, I bought a burger. Shortly after eating it I began to feel a little ill and it just got me thinking about the crap I eat. I eat a lot of crap and one of my thoughts for the new year was that I should stop doing that. After some thought, it occured to me that all of the foods I eat that are unhealthy contain, as a main ingredient, meat and so I've decided that - just for a short while - I'm going to give myself a general rule of no meat. While I have absolutely no ethical qualms about eating meat, going pescy for a bit gives me a far simpler rule to impose on myself than "don't eat so much crap". I'll succumb sooner or later. Teh meat is teh life.

To be honest though, giving up cheese would probably be a much better move. One that I don't think I'd ever be prepared to make. Cheese is kinda like oxygen in many ways. But tastier.

Bzzzzt bzzzt ah feck it

I'm drinking way too much coffee at the moment. We've recently rediscovered the perculator that was hidden away in the cupboard in the office and I've been going out to buy fresh ground coffee from the shop down the road. Cue many, many jugs of coffee being made over the last few days. I don't think it's very healthy.
To top that, I went out for lunch with Rob and had a pint of (not very strong) beer which seems to have left me entirely demotivated for the afternoon.

Feeling a bit emo today for various reasons. I've put some Coheed & Cambria on though so they can do all the emo for me so I don't have to bother :D

I think I need to do something new. Something to take me away (not necessarily physically) from the usual things that I do every week. I'm going out and drinking quite a lot these days but not much more than before so I'm still blaming it on christmas and new year.

Hex on Saturday. I somehow suspect it'll be rather quiet though :( I've been out a couple of times this month and it's been quiet everywhere. I get the impression that everybody spent all their money over christmas. Noobs ;)

So, who's got suggestions for things I can do that'll perk me up and are completely out of my ordinary routine? Any and all ideas welcome, I'm very open-minded :D

Squeee-wooooooo weeeee doodloodlooowowowowo

I am currently recovering from the second worst hangover I've ever had. I'm not convinced it's entirely deserved. Last night was ALUG pubmeet / Nerd Patrol / Geek Squad and also the last one before Noodles buggers off to NI (we want... a shrubbery). There was a certain amount of drinking done but I stuck to beer for the whole night and managed not to have any shots so I really wasn't expecting to feel quite as bad this morning as I did. I guess going to bed at 2am wankered and aiming to get up at 8 isn't very realistic.

Anyhoo, I'm almost human again now through the use of Irn Bru, paracetamol, Ribena, and pork.

I'd like to take this opportunity to proclaim my profound love for...

Irn Bru

And not just as a restorative. It's much better than Coke (of the cola variety) and the shop down the road from work sells cans for 39p \o/

I'm off to see Dream Theater at Wembley arena tomorrow which should be greatly entertaining :) Annoyingly though, it means I have to miss most of Hex. Ideally, we'll get away from the venue quite promptly and be back in Norwich for around 1 or shortly thereafter so hopefully I'll be able to play the last couple of hours of Hex.

I don't think I'm really in the mood for blogging. I can't quite concentrate properly yet. Also, I'm not going to mention she-who-always-wants-to-be-mentioned-in-my-blog today ;)

I don't usually remember my dreams for very long - usually for about half an hour after waking - but I had a dream a couple of nights ago that stuck in my head for some reason. The details are somewhat sketchy now but the gist is that there were several scenes, each involving one person that used to be a good friend and, for varying reasons, I have drifted apart from them or no longer consider them a friend. In each of these scenes, the ex-friend had died in some way or other (I think some were murdered, some were in accidents. I don't think I was responsible for any of them). The real thing that stuck in my head was that, on discovering that each person was dead, I didn't care in the slightest.

Um, that sounded more interesting in my head. So, what's that all about then eh? Is it some sort of realisation that these people are now "dead" to me and I'm regretting that or perhaps just acknowledging it? Or is that I feel like I should try to establish some sort of contact with these people and maybe try to patch things up? Meh. Either way, I have absolutely no idea what triggered it.

In other news, I've set up a MOO at freyr.mine.nu:7777 Feel free to connect to it and make a character. There's not much there at the moment so I need builders and programmers and am willing to be quite generous with the relevant bits :D

Not long until Eastern Haze now! If last year was anything to go by, it should be a fantastic weekend with a real mixture of things to enjoy. Mmm hippies. Anyone else going?

At last!

I've just found a website that could almost have been made specifically for me. You see, I'm very, very bad at making decisions. When I'm in a situation where I have two choices and neither of them appear to have any great benefit over the other, I find it extremely difficult to "just pick one". I used to carry a die around with me for making decisions. For some reason, it seems like people expect me to make decisions all the time and I'm generally quite easy-going and often don't have a preference either way and end up both getting frustrated and frustrating other people.

But now... I've discovered doxory.com :) Yay for complete absolution from responsibility! Hehe. Also, it's the first site I've used (other than LJ) that uses OpenID. Exciting stuff. Right.

So now that you all think I'm nuts, I'll get on with doing the blogging thing.

We went into Purple studios again on Saturday to record a few new tracks. We had no real intention of putting together another EP to promote or anything; we just wanted to get a decent recording of a few of the tracks that haven't been recorded yet. Primarily this is because our guitarist has left so we got him to come down and record his parts so we have a decent record of them.

We spent a total of 10 hours recording 3 tracks live (without vocals) then recording vocals, editing, and roughly mixing and I honestly believe we achieved more and got a better sound out of that one day than we had from the four days we spent there the last time we recorded. For a live recording in a day, it sounds great. I attribute a fair portion of that to our new drummer who is a joy to work with. Woot. Might put one of the new tracks up somewhere soon if anyone wants a listen.

I think I need a decent night out some time soon. Feels like it's been a while since I had a good night out. Had a fantastic evening out with [info]claudi85 a couple of weeks ago but that seems so long ago. Any takers?

After feeling totally miserable for the last couple of days (which I put down to being very tired from the weekend), I seem to be in a worryingly good mood today despite failing to make it to bed early last night. I just don't understand myself sometimes. Actually, most of the time.
